K-Series TV Optoliner Systems

Computer Serial Interface for the Multi-Purpose Meter / Lamp Power Supply
Model K-4001

The Model K-4001 Computer Serial Interface Module allows an external computer to control and monitor Model K-4000 TVO Digital Multipurpose Meter / Lamp Power Supply functions.  K-4001 modules support any personal computer with an industry standard RS-232C serial communication interface.  They are self powered, cooled and electrically isolated.

The Model K-4001 requires that a Model K-4000 Multi-Purpose Meter / Lamp Power Supply, either existing or newly acquired, be modified by  the addition of an printed circuit board and a 15 pin socket.  Once modified, the K-4000/K-4001 set may be used to computer control and monitor any TV Optoliner projector and Incandescent Illumination System with Internal Probe.  A 15 line cable with dual 15 pin plugs connects the Model K-4000 to the Model K-4001 through a 15 pin socket on the Model K-4001 Module.

A 9 pin socket on the Model K-4001 interfaces the unit over a standard, 3 wire, 9 pin plug to 25 pin socket RS-232C interface cable.  Other computer interface hardware plugs such as a 8 pin DIN and 9 pin D are also available.

The Model K-4001 allows software running on the host computer to control the lamp power supply voltage.  The same software also provides real-time read-out of both the lamp color temperature and image plane illuminance.

Although the Model K-4001 provides readings of greater accuracy, the data acquired by the Model K-4001 and displayed on  the host computer is consistent with that displayed on the Model K-4000.

The computer acquired data may then be logged to file, printed outas hard copy, inserted into another application such as a database or spreadsheet.  It can be used to derive new values for the lamp power supply voltage.

Simple compiled DOS Basic software supplied with the Model K-4001 provides setup of the serial port utility parameters, calibration of response to readout following power on, modification of display apperance, override of Model K-4000 switch settings, control of lamp power supply voltage, monitoring of lamp color temperature and image plane illuminance.  Basic source code is provided for those wishing to write custom software routines.
