Neutral Density Filters

Neutral Density Filters
A variety of neutral density filters is available ranging from approximately 80% to 10 -5 % in transmission.  Five of these filters are supplied with each complete TVO system.

Two basic types of filters are available.  One group consists of reflective filters having vacuum-deposited metal layers sandwiched between glass substrates.

The second group of filters is made from absorptive materials with high-efficiency antireflective coatings on both outside surfaces.  All filters are mounted in identical metal frames and are stored in foam-backed clear plastic boxes.  The nominal density values and identification numbers are engraved on the filter holders.  The exact density values are measured recorded by identification number and appropriately labeled on the plastic boxes.
The values are measured photometrically (peak at 550 nm) and may slightly differ at other wavelengths.  Special traces from 380 to 1100 nanometers are available at extra cost.

The densities, transmissions, and manufacturing tolerances for all standard filters are compiled in a table and are shown below with some typical spectral response traces.

Filters with non-standard values are available on request at extra cost.
