TV Optoliner Digital Multipurpose Meter/Power Supply with Computer Interface

Digital Multipurpose Meter, Lamp Power Supply and Internal Probe
This unit consists of three major functional building blocks; the power supply, the meter, and the detectors. The power supply, meter electronics, digital display, and all controls are housed together while the detectors are part of the internal probe assembly which links the TVO projector to the meter/power supply box.

The unit provides the necessary regulated power to the incandescent illumination system, and is also capable of measuring lamp color temperature, image plane illuminance, and lamp voltage.  The various modes are selected from a rotary switch on the front panel and the corresponding measured values are displayed on an LED panel meter.

The line cable is separate and plugs into the rear panel where the fuse is also located.  Lamp voltage is adjusted from a knob at the front panel; and an LED warning light indicates when the lamp design voltage has been exceeded. For short periods an over-voltage resulting higher color temperature may be desirable for certain tests, even though the life of the light bulbs may be shortened.  An input/output connector receptacle behind a dust trap door is located at the front panel.  It accepts the adapter and plug of the internal probe assembly.  A bipolar connector on the right side of the case provides external lamp power to the projector illumination system of older, converted projectors or when the system is purchased without the internal probe.  A BNC connector on the front panel supplies an analog output which can be utilized for record-keeping or computer hook-up.
The internal probe when installed in the projector provides the necessary signals to the digital multi purpose meter for measurement of illuminance and color temperature.

The probe assembly is permanently joined and factory calibrated with the projector.  A five foot cable exits from the probe head and terminates in an adapter box which contains the calibration circuitry and P/C plug for hook up with the digital meter.  The assembly carries lamp power to the illumination system and returns signals to the digital meter through the same cable.  The probe head contains two silicon detectors receiving luminous energy from the light source by way of double-fold prisms located between the test pattern slide and Neutral Density filter slots.

Neither the meter nor the power supply can be used for alternate illumination systems unless they are equipped with compatible tungsten filament lamps.

The complete unit is factory calibrated on a photometric test bench whose illuminance sources are traceable to the National Institute of Standards and Technology.
