PORRO PRISM -- D-523
The Model D-523 Porro Prism is a dependable fixture for maintaining a permanent azimuth reference and providing alignment normal to the basic reference. As a missile platform reference, our military establishments use porro prisms similar to the Model D-523 for azimuth aiming of U.S. ballistic missiles.
The dependability of the Model D-523 Porro Prism is based on the insensitivity of one axis related to the sensitivity in the other axis. As the entrance beam contacts the Model D-523 Porro Prism, the exit beam will be parallel to it.
Therefore any rotation about the axis parallel to the vertex of the prism will not cause angular deviation. This feature enables angular measurement in one axis without regards to the other. |
