AUTOCOLLIMATING ALIGNMENT TELESCOPE -- D-271

The compact precision Model D-271 Autocollimating Alignment Telescope is rugged, versatile and easy to use. It aligns points along its optical axis to better than ±0.010 inches (0.25 mm) up to 35 feet (10.7 m) away. Mechanical fixturing is made easily because the barrel is parallel to the optical axis. With the added feature of an autocollimator, reflective surfaces can be aligned perpendicular to the Model D-271. It focuses from 6 inches (152 mm) to infinity. In addition, when the Model D-271 is focused at infinity, it functions as an autocollimator.
Introduction:
The Model D-271 is primarily an alignment telescope, which means that the optical line of sight of the telescope at any distance is an accurate extension of the axis of the outside cylindrical barrel or tube of the telescope. The telescope focuses from 6 inches (152 mm) to infinity. In addition, the Model D-271 has an autocollimating feature that permits it to be used as an autocollimator. The light source sends a beam of light out of the objective in the form of parallel or infinite rays of light. When these light rays are reflected by a tilted mirror the angle through which the reflected beam is turned equals to twice the tilted mirror angle. However, the Model D-271 has a built-in compansating factor that permits reading the exact angle of the mirror tilt. Specifically, if the mirror is tilted 1 arc minute, what the telescope reads is 1 arc minute instead of 2 arc minutes. The Model D-271 comes complete with power pack and carrying case.
